The Irrefutable Wisdom of Mr Think Chapter 1, pages 6 to 10

CH1-PG10

Hey hey, you lucky people!

SO I have finally finished the 10th page of Mr Think, and have started on pages 11-15. This has been really good fun and I think that I have another 10 pages before the end of the chapter.

I have a couple of great ideas for the next chapter and where Mr Think will be heading, but I need to finish the original story first.

And just to warn you, this is when it starts to get silly!

Hope you enjoy,

The Irrefutable Wisdom of Mr Think Chapter 1, pages 1 to 5

Well well, you lucky lucky people! The first five pages of my new Webcomic are up. Click the image above to check them out!

About Mr Think

“Mr Think. Always happy to think when you don’t want to!”

Do you have an unsolvable problem? Do you have a puzzle that is halting your progress? Are you simply not bothered enough to figure something out? Maybe you need Mr Think – The Super Hero who holds The Power Of Thought!

When Detective Honeydue faces a dark and dreadful crime so complex that he is simply downright stumped, he calls upon the wisdom of the Mighty Hero. But what of the consequences?

Why?

Well… why not. It’s always been a passion of mine to tell stories in a visual style. I have always wanted to make a comic, and I figured now is the best time to do it!

I am greatly influenced by a lot of the indies and webcomics; Bird Boy and Rickety Stitch and all that. Jim Zub, author of Skull Kickers and a few DnD comics is an inspiring figure, especially since his background is in Animation, like mine. I asked myself, now that I am 30, what is my 5 year plan, professionally speaking. Or even better, what do I hope to have achieved in 5 years. My answer was that I hoped to be invited to a comicon as a creator of comics. Now I don’t know how likely that would be, but you have to give it a shot, and you have to start somewhere. Mr Think is where I start.

Training

I live in one city and work in another. My daily commute takes an hour and a quarter each way, thirty minutes of these are on the train. That meant I spend an hour every sat on a train doing nothing, and had three hours of my day taken away from me. Needless to say I was getting quite fed up; I had ideas I wanted to pursue and things I wanted to create, but didn’t have the time!

So I invested in a decent drawing tablet computer so I could sketch and write and animate on the train. And this has been the out come. I found myself with a silly idea about a super hero whose power was to Think, and I ran with it. I had a base idea that I developed on the train, some quick sketches and designs of characters I could draw quite easily, and set to draw a comic during my daily commute.

This is almost like a training exercise for me. With my personal plan to be part of the comic industry, I realised I had to start somewhere; no matter how short or silly the story, no matter how quick and cheap the art work.

You want to make comics? Then make a comic.

Kikrill and Athnox

Kikril And Athnox_int

Soo… maybe a bit of an explanation is in order here…

I have a couple of friends at work who are into the whole boardgame and RPG sort of thing. Their names are not Kikrill or Athnox, but pretty damn close!

Anyway, I had this idea for a short story a little while ago about two street rat thieves in a dark fantasy city, one is a lanky and silly elf, the other is a hot-headed human who believes with all his heart that he is a dwarf (spoiler – he isn’t a dwarf), and believes everything he says to be true. I’m not saying these are the particular qualities of my friends, but it’s pretty damn close!

So I have joked with my friends, shooting around these names a couple of times, and when I created my Hammer and Nail piece, I jokingly told them it was of Kikrill and Athnox. And they believed me.

It was hightime I actually designed the characters I had envisioned them to be and so created the mock comic book cover above. I added, as a little personal joke, a cameo of myself. I needed a character completely opposing to Kikrill and Athnox to represent myself, something to show off my own jovial, imaginative and incredibly intelligent personality that I bring to our group.

Thus Doctor Roxx (a bastardisation of Durose), the Happy Magic Ghost Dog, was created.

Below is a bit of a WIP gallery as I am wont to do. But if you would like to fund me to make this whole comic a reality, SEND MONEY!

Cheers!

Painting Study – Aurora Battle by Clint Cearley

hey guys, so as I want to become a better artist, I decided to spend my Saturday studying a painting in the style I wish to develop, and here is the result!

FOR THIS REASON I MUST STRESS THAT THE COMPOSITION AND DESIGN OF THIS PIECE IS COPIED, AND SO THOUGH THIS IS MY VERSION OF A PIECE, IT IS NOT MINE INTELECTUALLY.

Studies 01 1

Not bad for 4 hours work… o_o

the original is called Aurora Battle by Clint Cearley and can be found here; https://www.artstation.com/artwork/6wQaV

I started by looking at the composition of the piece, blocking in the background at the values, purely working in greyscale.

Studies 01 5

After feeling happy with the look of the piece, I added a bit more detail, working on the ground, the cloth and the metal rendering.

Studies 01 4

next I worked on the hair and included the bow, but didn’t go into too much detail with these.

Studies 01 3

lastly I spend a little time working in some colour on a different layer, adding in some glows and other bits and pieces.

Studies 01 1

I had a great time replicating this amazing piece, and look forward to the next study I do! My aim is to become a better fantasy artist, as well as artist in general. I feel good about my portraits as seen in the Critical Roll pieces, but want to delve deeper into full body illustrations as well as more interesting backgrounds and environments.

Cheers for taking the time to have a look!

[CRITICAL ROLE] THE HALF-ELF RANGER PORTRAIT

Having done this picture of Laura Bailey’s Vex’ahlia, I thought it would be good to do a proper portrait of her, in the same way that I have done the rest of ‘Vox Machina’. She is the last of the party I feel obliged to do to complete the set, but I think I may end up doing a few more Critical Role portraits in the future.

Cheers guys!

And as ever, feel free to Buy Me A Coffee to show your appreciation! 😀

[CRITICAL ROLE] THE RAGE

A very stylised Critical Role portrait of one of my favourite character – Travis Willingham’s character Grog Strongjaw.

This one has taken me a little time, but I’m very happy with how it has turned out!
